Archbishop Warda visit with Bishop Hugh Gilbert

Archbishop Warda visit with Bishop Hugh Gilbert

Archbishop Bashar Warda of Erbil, Iraq, oversees the emergency situation facing 100,000+ IDPs who were forced from their homes by Daesh (ISIS).

On Thursday (18th May) he visited Bishop Hugh Gilbert of the Diocese of Aberdeen.

In 2015 Aberdeen Diocese raised more than £20,000 for Aid to the Church in Need projects in Iraq after the fall of Mosul to Daesh in 2014.

Archbishop Warda’s visit follows last week’s (literally) ground-breaking developments on the Nineveh Plains, as the plan to rebuild homes in Christian villages driven out by Deash (ISIS) in summer 2014 got underway in three settlements.

Ground-breaking ceremonies were held in Bartella and Karamlesh on Monday, 8th May and in Qaraqosh on Thursday, 11th May, which before it fell to Daesh was the last Christian majority town in Iraq.
