The general statement

Standard

The story of abuse at Fort Augustus Abbey School and Carlekemp Preparatory School in Scotland has been widely reported in Scotland and also in England.  The Abbot President was asked by the BBC to appear on the programme first broadcast on 29 July 2013, and he agreed, on condition that he would be allowed to express his sorrow to any victims of abuse at Fort Augustus; a condition which the BBC honoured.

Fort Augustus Abbey School was closed in 1993, and Fort Augustus Abbey closed in 1999.  It is therefore not possible for a representative of Fort Augustus Abbey to communicate with those who have been abused.

We urge anyone with information to come forward and report it to the Police by phoning 101 or emailing fortaugustusabbeyenq@scotland.pnn.police.uk

All reports will be directed to the inquiry team and fully investigated. All inquiries will be dealt with in a sensitive manner by trained officers.

An Abuse Support Line run by Children 1ST has also been set up: 0800 345 7457 (Mon-Fri 9am-10pm, weekends noon-8pm). Trained volunteer call-takers can listen and provide practical advice, refer callers or forward information to police and direct callers to appropriate local services and agencies. Arrangements can also be made for on-going support through a schedule of calls.
