Over 70 young adults in our diocese journeyed together to Rome and Assisi for the Jubilee for Youth 28 July-6 August. Led by Sr. Angela Marie, Fr. Aidan Matheson, and Sr. Francesca Therese, the pilgrims encountered the beauty and history of the Church in Rome and passed through Holy Doors at the major basilicas. Joined by youth from Glasgow, they hosted a lively Scottish ceilidh in one of the piazzas and celebrated Mass at Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, a church dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle. The group were also invited by Ukrainian friends to enjoy their beautiful liturgy and a meal at Santa Sophia. Accompanied by one million other young people from around the world, they experienced the universal church in its glory at the Vigil at Tor Vergata with Pope Leo XIV. They rejoiced to encounter him circling around in his Popemobile, prayed with him at Adoration and Mass, and heard him encourage and exhort them personally to greater holiness. During the final 2 days in Assisi, they prayed at the tombs of St. Francis, St. Clare, and Bl. Carlo Acutis, rested, and deepened their friendships with one another. May the graces of this pilgrimage continue to spread through the whole diocese!
