Day Conference on the Psalms

Abbot Gregory Polan OSB, a monk of Conception Abbey, Missouri, led the translation project to revise the Grail Psalms, creating the Abbey Psalter, which is used in the new translation of the Lectionary for Mass.

During his visit to Scotland, he offers two one-day conferences which will take place on Tuesday, 28th October at the University of Stirling and on Wednesday, 29th October at Christ the King Church Hall, Glasgow. Both days will run from 10:30 to 16:00. The cost will be £25, including lunch.

Content will include:

  • The Revised Grail (Abbey) Psalms: its creation and the use of Psalmody in the liturgy in general
  • The use of Psalmody in the Mass and the Responsorial Psalm (include Entrance and Communion antiphons)
  • Preaching on the Psalms
  • The Psalter and a life of prayer

On the evening of Wednesday, 29th October, from 19:00 to 20:30, there will be a practical workshop in Christ the King Church, Glasgow, aimed at clergy and parish musicians, “Singing the Psalms in the Liturgy”.  This will be led by members of the BCOS Liturgical Commission. This workshop aims to encourage the singing of the Abbey Psalms from our new Lectionary in the Liturgy and to point musicians towards musical resources available. There is no charge for this event.
